Why we should celebrate our milestones

The journey of life can be compared to a long road, filled with different steps and paths. It’s not straight, but it will always lead you to one final destination: death. Once you reach your destination, you will look back, not just to how you ended your story, but to how you lived it, your accomplishments, hardships, and beautiful journey. Yes, the truth is hard, but it reminds us about how valuable life is and how we should recognize our achievements while we are still experiencing them, rather than looking back on the deathbed with regret.
Our milestones are there to remind us how far we have come on our journey, as well as allow us to reflect on how we have grown as people. Society today has become so focused on reaching the next goal that they forget to take a minute to pause and appreciate the progress that they have made thus far. This causes people to have a lower sense of personal accomplishment and can give them the feeling that they missed out on recognizing their milestones.
However, the long-awaited celebration does come with a few issues. For example, “Achieve’s think tank, the Achieve Center for Consumer Insights, conducted the “Cost of Being There” survey to examine how consumers manage the expense of participating in major life milestone events like weddings” and found that “Nearly three in four Americans (74%) find that the cost of celebrating major life milestones with their family and close friends affects their financial well-being.”
While it’s true that big parties and celebrations are fun and an amazing way to celebrate, they aren’t necessarily a prudent option for most people’s budget. Nevertheless, celebrations don’t need to be grand and upscale; they can even be a personal reflection of your achievements. In the end, what matters the most is that you recognize the effort that you put into reaching this point and give yourself credit for how far you’ve come.
All in all, life is about enjoying the journey. At the end of the day, the goal isn’t to regret how we rushed to the end, but to be glad we were there to acknowledge the progress we made along the way. Take life slowly and start appreciating the things you accomplish more. I promise you won’t regret it.
